Thumbs...

As many of you have found, my blog is the place where I am most personal with all of you.  Today's blog post is no different, expected it doesn't involve Mike or Tupelo this time.

For those of you that are new this is information you do not know the history on so I'm going to recap a bit.  Quite some time ago, about 1 1/2 years ago I was tormented by bullies on my channel.  My channel on Youtube had a different name, it was "velocityvette1".  I also had a blog called "velocity scrapper".  I had reached almost 2,000 subbies on my channel and about 145 followers on my blog.  I had worked hard at it, just like I do now.  I ended up losing my channel to some ladies who thought it would be really funny to "copyright" my channel and tell me I stole it.  These ladies had done far more to me before it got to this point, including using my personal email address to bully me, so when I was called a very derogatory name on my blog, after some ladies tag teamed on my blog to bully me, I finally just threw in the towel and closed it all down and left the social media crafting world.  I needed the break, and I wanted to craft in peace.

I was contacted by several ladies that cared about me a lot and they got my head on straight.  They were strong when I wasn't and helped me realize these ladies were not worth my worry, and I needed to focus on all the positive comments left by people I had encouraged and inspired.  So out of all of this began a new crafting attitude and world for me. This is when I started "velocityvette08".  The ladies that supported me sub'd me immediately and I had lots of subbies before I knew it.  And now, just a year and a few months later I'm heading toward 6,000 subbies.  I'm amazed and so grateful for that.

It gave me the courage to start a blog again and even become very personal in it with all of you, because there are so many wonderful people who watch my videos, tutorials, read my blog posts, follow me on Pintrest, and care about Mike and Tupelo.  I'm so happy I started it and I'm having a lot of fun with it.

In fact I'm having a wonderful time everywhere, on FaceBook, my channel - all the places I connect with you all.  This brings me to my last step I needed to take - the "thumbs".  One of the things that the bullies did was thumbs down my videos.  I could put 4 videos up at the same time, and I could watch on Video Manager as each one got 3 thumbs down in a just a matter of a few seconds, they would just go down the list.  In fact, I was such a focus of their life, I actually had videos get thumbs down before they even registered a view, which meant, they had to be watching their computer for me to upload a video, then very quickly open it before anyone else, thumbs down it, and close it before it registered a view.  I was really amazed by that, because that took some effort!

Since then I haven't bothered to turn the thumbs up/down on on my videos.  I just set my default to have them turned off.  I've had several of you over time say, I tried to thumbs up your video, but it won't work for some reason.  Well, it's been turned off.

YouTube recently made changes that allows you to now thumbs up or thumbs down a video, but you can't see it, only I can.  Since that change went into place here is what has been happening on my channel.  A few of my videos have been getting one thumbs down.  Now I realize there could be someone who just doesn't like them.  But, interestingly enough, it's my tutorial videos, such as "The Basics of" tutorials, and my "Mixed Media Beginner Backgrounds" videos, and most recently my tutorial called "Under Glass" using Renea's butterflies and dragonflies.

I decided it was time to turn the thumbs up and thumbs down back on.  It's kind of last step for me to show I'm confident in my work and what I'm doing.  If you don't like it, that's fair, you surely don't have to watch, and are free to move on. As far as those old bullies go... I would hope they've found something else to do by now.  I've clearly found my way and am just  having lots of fun creating, connecting with all of you on my blog, swapping ATCs with some of you, surprising you with cards, having Flash Contests.... all of these activities are my way of trying to share my work with  you.  And Wow! have you all shared back with me!  I've had beautiful gifts made for me, cards sent to me to surprise me, I've received amazing ATCs in my swaps, it goes on and on. I feel blessed beyond words.

So, this is a big deal for me, I'm now 100% back and then some, but the thumbs were the final piece to me being 100% back. So, I'm going to ask this.... "if you enjoy a video of mine you watch, would you take a moment and give me the thumbs up?"  I would really appreciate it.  I understand it has some value with Youtube and it of course has a lot of value for me to see that my video was enjoyed.  Positive feedback is always appreciated by everyone who does videos. You really put yourself out there with each one you do, you allow yourself to be vulnerable,.  It's not always easy, especially if you have struggled with a project, or it didn't turn out just as you would have hoped.  When I read your comments I know it was worth it.

I feel so good about making this decision and I'm going to ask for your support with it, especially while it's new for me to have them turned back on.  I hope you all will have my back and give me the thumbs up if I've earned it in your eyes.

Thank you all for helping me get to this final step and actually taking it.  It's no small thing to me.

Love you all!   Jane....vv08

  3. dear Jane, i didn't know all of this and i would never thought about people doing this here on you tube!! i mean we are all adults i guess, and if you don't like someones work, than don't watch it! I watch video's that are inpiring to me, or helpfull or just beautiful!
But you are right to feel good about your work, i never did thumbs up almost with nobody, i never think about it. I just leave a comment. I also don't get many thumbs up/down, so i thought nobody does that on you tube! LOL!
so i will do that on your video's but i could forget it sometimes!!! because i am not used to do it!!
and if ever those ladys are coming back, and you now their names or you tube names, than tell me and i will mail them personally!!!! Nobody touch 'my'Jane! ;)

  6. Jane, you know I've got your back for sure. I don't understand people that can spend so much of their time bullying others. So sorry you had to experience that. But you came out on top and I'm proud of you for taking this last difficult step. You have developed a wonderful youtube family that love you and believe in you. Your crafting skills have grown through the years to produce amazing work. And while I can't speak for others, I can tell you this. Watching you craft and hearing the personal stories you share has inspired me in so, so many ways. You help to give me strength at times I feel like throwing in the towel. You have taught me so much through your tutorials that has helped me step out of my comfort zone and try something new. So from the bottom of my heart, I thank you. Thank you for just being you! Have a wonderful day my friend. Big hugs!!

I was going to email you today, but I'll mention it here - THANK YOU for the lovely card you sent me, what a surprise it was to get that in the mail. It was a real treat. I sure hope the people I surprise feel what I felt yesterday! Thank you for the support, encouragement, and friendship. I'm really happy to take this last step, it feels like closure to the whole issue. I know you are there for me, and I can't tell you how much I appreciate it! Much Luv!

    2. I always wondered what had happened. I saw that one vid of the lady with the blood disease talking about you so I knew there was drama. They were simply jealous of you. Plain and simple. So good for you, keep your head up. There are some awful videos that deserve thumbs down, but that person took the time to.put it up so I would never do that to them. Life is about swimming through the bitches. Swim on!

  7. I remember when you took your last channel down, I was heartbroken. Reasons were I so enjoyed watching them, learned so much fom you and the last reason, the bullies had won and that made me mad! Mildred, I did email a couple of them that had created YouTube accounts just to harass. I called them out on that point. I was so happy when you came back full strength and have continued to move forward in your own direction. You seem happy and that's all I want for you. You will always get a Thumbs Up from me!!! Thank you Jane for being here for all your friends!

    1. You Donna are like my backbone, you are a very strong person, and you stepped up and confronted the bullies dead on back then. I couldn't believe someone would do that for me, but you did, and I'll never forget it. I have been inspired by all of you since I returned. I've been inspired to grow, to expand my creativity, and most importantly to discover myself at a deeper level. Thank you for your support, I know you will always be there. You are a wonderful person Donna, I'm so proud to know you! xx

  8. Just amazing to me how people can be so cruel. Of course I will thumbs up you, that is a given. Those ladies aren't worth the time of day. I would say, they are just jealous of what you have and they don't have, and Girlfriend, that is TALENT, LOVE, RESPECT, and a big heart. You go above and beyond to help us, some of us are new to this, some of us are scared of doing things or even sharing because we feel we are not good enough...... You have given us the confidence to try something new, and to just do it without FEAR of failing... Thank you! Thank you! Thank You!

  10. I will thumbs up with out a doubt, I am not very eloquent, and do not always have time to type a comment, but thumbs up is easy. I only have a few videos, but I did get a really odd comment about not talking about drugs! It was a crafting video and all my friends could not find anything I said regarding that subject, so I did not contact the person but did block them, lucky for me it ended there, but I was worried for a short while.

    1. Wow, isn't that the oddest thing, good thing you just blocked them and that was it. Thanks for giving me the thumbs up, that's perfect and means someone liked what I did, so it definitely counts inn my book, Hugs, Jane

  11. Jane, so proud of you for conquering a situation. There are haters everywhere and how miserable they must be to spend and exhert so much energy picking on you. My channel motto is that you remain in "DeeLightful Company" we get to choose whom we let in, but when we put ourselves out there, we take the risk that the "evil" will creep in. Just focus on the positive feedback and let the negative get outweighed by them. I really enjoy ALL your videos. hugs Dee

  12. Jane, Thank you for sharing this story with us! What horrible lives those people must have to feel that they have the right to pull that crap. How pathetic for them. I am so sorry that you had to go through all of that.
I always leave a thumbs up or down when I watch a video because I want the person to know how I think they are doing. I have left a few thumbs down but ALWAYS explained in a comment WHY I gave it a thumbs down.
Keep doing what you are doing and if those idiots come back let us know and we will be a formidable force that will kill them with kindness! I call it my F U with a smile when I do something "nice" for someone who has wronged me. I had a coworker who got me fired because she disliked me and I got a much better job with lots of benefits so I sent her a card to Thank her for her efforts and let her know all the benefits that I had at my new job. Needless to say the egg wound up on HER face at the end of the day because she finally got outted and lost her job and is still looking for a new one a year later! HA!

Hopefully that co-worker will think twice before she taunts Karma again! These ladies who did what they did to me are on YT, and I came back with a new channel - no subbies, had to start all over (although many came right back) but many did not so I had to work at it, and I have blown by all those ladies now by double, triple, and as much as 6 times the number of subbies they have and I did it in all just a bit over a year. Thanks for the support and friendship Barbara! xx

OMGosh with all this I've been writing about today I just had someone blast me on one of my videos and tell me I am wasting everyones time because I am not prepared when I do my videos, I need to get prepared before I film.... geez.... Of course she had never one a video of her own. I don't understand... how about this concept... if you don't like what you're seeing, just move on. You have no obligation to watch. Crazy mean people.

I was so impressed with your talent but more so your integrity. I will be happy to thumbs up your vids as I have already done. 16. Jane, I've only been on YT and Facebook in a crafting sense since Nov 13, and in that time there has been a few people that are being bullied one only last week. I'm against bullying on any scale and have been known to speak my mind, so just let me know and I've got your back.
Love your videos and I learnt so much with "The Basics of" series as someone just starting out and being totally confused about the aray of different types of paint, sprays or papers baffled me totally. I now don't have to stand at the counter looking totally lost I can at least ask some intelligent questions when I go to the craft supply shop looking for an item and for that I'll always be greatful to you and Maymay.
I'll start clicking the thumbs up from now on. :) Christene

    1. Sadly bullying is in the crafting community at one level or another. It was one reason it was important to me to do the "Basics of" with Amy, I felt it not only would help crafters, but it showed that two ladies could collaborate together to do something good for the crafting community with no problems, no drama, no backstabbing, just fun, and positive crafting. I'm so glad you have confidence now where you didn't before, that has to feel good. Thank you for your support, it's really nice to have! xx

  18. Wow Jane, I am so sorry all that happened to you! Just goes to show that even adults get bullied which is just plain stupid that grown adults take the time to do this to someone. Yes, it is stupid that kids to it too, but even more so with the adults because the kids are learning from the adults!! I have yet to experience any bulling and I hope I never do, but I do know that I'm glad that you are 100% back and I'm grateful to the ladies had the confidence in you to get you back into doing video's and a blog. Now I have always clicked on the thumbs up sign when ever I watched a video of yours, just didn't know it wasn't working. lol I always give thumbs up to all the videos I watch even if I don't particularly care for the video, but I know someone went to the trouble of making it so they deserve a thumb up. It's no their fault it didn't float my boat and it is different strokes for different folks. But I would never make someone feel bad by thumbs down to their videos-never. It is so easy for people like the people that bullied you to hide behind the computer knowing you can't "see" them. They are cowards and to me just plain hateful people. I hope you never have to go through this again Jane, but rest assured if some one would try and bully you, I think we would all have your back and get after them!! Big hugs my friend-Brenda

    1. Brenda, you are such a good friend. I know you would be part of rallied troops if things got ugly again, but I don't expect that to happen. To be honest I feel the bullies see how supportive my subbies are and don't want to mess with all of you, because the mess with me, they mess with all of us. And, I agree, it sure is easy to do that stuff from behind a computer screen.. I sure learned that. But things are really good now, and today is a big day for me to finally put closure to it all. Thanks for the support and friendship! xx

  23. One thing I have learned is not everything is for everybody. Also, there are just cruel people in this world. Just do right and do what you love. Youtube constantly "suggests" vids one might like, I wish they would kill the thumbs up and simply have a choice of "it is for me" or "this isn't for me" and only use them to suggest other channels. The current thumbs up or down are bogus and I tell them so. Just like creating 10 different emails or more so that you can fake them as subscribers. This is one reason why I think I haven't jummped in to making videos - and what I do is much different. Proud for all you have accomplished....dee

  24. Dear Jane, I know this is a little late, but I really am sorry you had to experience this on your channel. I watched you when I first started crafting over 5 years ago, and found you delightful. I had much to learn back then. Setting my sights on learning how to edit, and understand YouTube, I am now growing at a steady rate, to which I am thankful. When I couldn't find your Channel, I thought you took a break to work on your health. Now that I read this, I am saddened to the core that you were put through this, and bullied. I remember a few months ago, on my Blog, I lost 11 subscriber's in one hour. I couldn't believe it. I am not comparing of course, but I know that empty feeling of despair, thinking " what did I do to lose 11 subs instantly"? I pouted for a day, then realized it was out of my control. I then gained 25 more in the following week. Funny how that works sometimes. haha. Any who, I am thrilled to pieces for your success with the store, and your strength to move forward. It is so inspiring. Take care of yourself.
